Voluntary MHA Associate Hospital Manager roles

Job Description

As a volunteer with a professional background and an ability to be fully trained by us in the Mental Health Act, you can offer around 8 hours a year of your time to attend Hospital Mental Health Act Tribunal Meetings. Travel expenses will be paid. This is a voluntary rather than a salaried position. You will need to have a clear current DBS to take this role. The role contributes greatly to the transparency and independence of MHA tribunal meetings and giving a wise, independent voice to add to the views of the patient, clinicians and case managers. We have four hospitals – two in North London, one in Rotherham South Yorkshire and one in Breaston, Derbyshire.

The Essential and desirable skills you will need:

  • Applicants must have a professional background, preferably health or legal
  • Ability to give around 8 hours a year to the role
  • Empathy with young people with eating disorders
  • Motivation, enthusiasm, flexibility and self-awareness
  • Current enhanced DBS
  • Awareness of mental health difficulties in young people
  • Awareness of the Mental Health Act
  • Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain discretion at all times

 

This role suits people who have taken early or normal retirement from a senior or clinical healthcare post. Associate Hospital MHA Managers (AHMs) are important to the hospital so that there is objective community input into the running of our hospitals and in our interface with legal bodies. Our services are provided for young inpatients aged 8 to 18 and young adults just after their 18th birthday.
