Dr. Salbu Krishnan, DFM, MRC Psych, joined the Ellern Mede team in January 2017 as a Consultant Psychiatrist. Dr. Krishnan has worked with children and young people for over 10 years. He developed special interests in Eating Disorders and Psychosomatic Medicine during his course of work in a number of NHS and private sector clinical settings. Dr. Krishnan previously held the posts of Lead Psychiatrist for CAMHS in Herefordshire; Together NHS Trust; and Eating Disorders in Suffolk for Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Trust.
Dr. Krishnan was initially a family physician prior to taking up his training for membership of royal college of psychiatrists at Cambridge. Over the course of his career he has worked with complex young people in Tier 4 inpatient Units for over 5 years. His inpatient experience include working in general adolescent inpatient units, forensic units and specialised eating disorder units in West Midlands and East Midlands. Dr. Krishnan has been a consultant and approved clinician under the mental health act since May 2011 along with being a Section 12 approved doctor in England and Wales and Section 22 approved medical practitioner for the Scottish NHS Board.
He has experience of working with young people with severe and complex eating disorders, psychosomatic conditions, autism spectrum disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, major mood disorders and psychotic disorders. His range of experience has been beneficial for young people with eating disorders, particularly with co-morbid conditions and dual diagnosis. He would like to develop his experience and interest in severe eating disorders and psychosomatic medicine, learning from young people, families and the resourceful Ellern Mede team.
At present Dr. Krishnan is a full-time consultant at Ellern Mede. He admits young people to High Dependency Unit, Acute Eating Disorders Unit and Ellern Mede Barnet for inpatient, day patient and outpatient services.
