Our Philosophy of Care

At Ellern Mede, our philosophy is rooted in hope, partnership, and personalised healing. We aim to help every person build trust in our team and use that trust as a foundation for gaining strength, self-esteem, and confidence, empowering them to challenge their illness and reclaim their life

We understand that complex presentations including eating disorders and disordered eating can deeply affect identity, relationships, and emotional wellbeing. That’s why we are committed to walking alongside our patients and their families every step of the way.

We never give up on a patient. We see beyond the illness, recognising the whole person, their story, their strengths, and their potential. Our care is individualised, confidential, and deeply supportive, designed to help each person blossom in their own time and on their own terms.

Recovery is not just about symptom management, it’s about restoring relationships, rebuilding confidence, and helping families reconnect. We work collaboratively with patients and families to co-produce care plans, set meaningful goals, and build formulations that reflect lived experience and personal values. Through structured assessments and therapeutic engagement, we identify each person’s unique needs and tailor interventions accordingly.

Dr Hind Al-Khairulla, Consultant Psychiatrist and Clinical Director, explains:

“Our therapists help people to see that the illness is not their identity. We support the person to take control of their challenges. When they know they have the support of a strong group of understanding and expert clinicians and a family whose insight and experience are valued as an essential part of the care team, this gives them the confidence to face challenges which previously seemed impossible to overcome.” At Ellern Mede, we believe that recovery is possible, and we are here to make that journey safe, supported, and empowering.

We see patients develop the confidence to face challenges that previously seemed insurmountable. We never give up. We give the patient as much time as they need to grow stronger at their own pace, Discharge planning is evident throughout every programme.

Patient letter to Dr Hind Al Khairulla

“Thank you so much for what you have done for me. You are the kindest, most warm-hearted amazing person I have ever met. I remember the days when I used to just pace up and down. You taught me to cope with stressful situations in ways other than exercise. I’m sure hundreds of other kids will benefit from your support.”
