Are you well suited to become a Healthcare Assistant or Support Worker? Perhaps you have studied health and social care or psychology, or have experience in learning in this type of job. Can you see yoursef caring for children and young people with eating disorders? An attraction is flexible day and night shifts which mean you may have three or four days on shift and three or four days off. We have Open Days regularly at each of our four hospital sites in England –
- Ellern Mede Ridgeway in Mill Hill, North London
- Ellern Mede Barnet in North London
- Ellern Mede Moorgate in Rotherham
- Ellern Mede Derby in Breaston, Derbyshire
.Day and Night shifts are available. You don’t need any specific qualification as in-depth induction and training is given. You do need to tell us about yourself and submit your CV to apply to attend our Open Days, where you will have a tour of the site, meet clinical staff, and be interviewed. The sort of characteristics that will make you an excellent candidate include compassion, and commitment to delivering high quality care. The salary range we offer for an HCA post is £22,500 per annum with immediate increases for length of tenure. There are also opportunities for promotion to Senior HCA and other roles depending on your qualifications and performance.

The Essential and desirable skills you will need:
- Desirable – inpatient CAMHS eating disorder experience
- Computer skills in Electronic Patient Records
- Compassion, motivation, enthusiasm, flexibility and self-awareness
- A non-judgemental approach
- Ability to remain calm even in difficult circumstances
- Observation skills
- Satisfactory health clearance
- DBS check
- A positive warm manner with patients and their families
Health Care Assistants also known as Support Workers play a key role within Ellern Mede’s Multi-Disciplinary Team and a huge role in supporting vulnerable young people. You are with them day in and day out. You get to know them very well. Your professional relationship with the young people will be close, but boundaried, supportive, but firm with the eating disorder. You need to be psychologically strong, and empathic. You will encounter difficult interactions. You will have the full support of your manager, team and regular supportive supervision, as well as access to our Employee Assistance Programme.
HCA posts with Ellern Mede are subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions that might apply to this post.
