Ellern Mede Ridgeway is a 26‑bed hospital providing inpatient treatment for children and young people aged 8–18 years with complex health needs including disordered eating and Eating Disorders.
The team has a long‑established record of helping children and young people achieve meaningful recovery outcomes. Over the past 21 years, the service has brought hope and progress to hundreds of patients and their families.
The Care Quality Commission rates Ellern Mede Ridgeway as Good across all five key lines of enquiry: safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well‑led.
General Ward, High Dependency Ward, and Two Step‑Down Cottages
The hospital offers three main care settings: a high‑dependency ward (Lask Ward), a general complex‑care ward (Nunn Ward), and two pre‑discharge transition wards (the Cottages). We provide NHS England and CCG‑commissioned specialist beds, along with additional capacity for private, self‑funded, and insurance‑funded inpatients.

Our multidisciplinary team are experts in the treatment of complex presentations & eating disorders. We work closely with patient’s families, together supporting the young people in overcoming their difficulties. We also work closely with families, healthcare professionals and commissioners. We use evidence-based therapies and approaches in our work with young people and their families. Demand is high and there is rarely a time we do not have a waiting list.
Internationally Renowned Specialist Complex Care Treatment including Eating Disorders
Ellern Mede’s multidisciplinary team of experts provide highly specialised care for children and young people with complex health needs including the treatment of Eating Disorders. Each patient receives a personalised care plan tailored to their individual circumstances, designed to minimise disruption to daily life. The service provides the benefits of:
- Specialist and well-resourced multidisciplinary team
- Education on site from specialist teachers (funded either by local authority or privately)
- Preparation for discharge / Transition support from CAMHS to Adult
- Access to a full care pathway including outpatient care following discharge

Ellern Mede provides specialist inpatient mental health care for children (aged 8+), adolescents and adults with complex presentations, including eating disorders, trauma-related difficulties, emotional dysregulation, neurodivergence and overlapping mental health needs.
We accept referrals from NHS commissioners and international health authorities, and welcome private enquiries via self-funding or medical insurance.
All referrals are subject to clinical review to assess suitability, level of risk and therapeutic fit.
