Ellern Mede Barnet is a 16-bed specialist eating disorder hospital in North London, with an adjoining step-down annex to support continued recovery. We provide compassionate, expert care for young adults aged 18 and over, working closely with families and healthcare professionals to support each patient’s journey. Our goal is to help individuals regain their health, independence, and confidence as they prepare to return home and rejoin their communities.

Services at Ellern Mede Barnet are available both privately and in collaboration with publicly funded health authorities across the British Isles and internationally. The hospital has a bright and modern environment with spacious en-suite bedrooms, communal areas, a “Rainbow Lounge” dining room, and meeting rooms. A private garden offers additional outdoor space for patients.
The hospital’s layout includes patient areas on the ground and first floors, with office space and therapy rooms on the second floor. The hospital has two wards, Rowan Ward and Ash Ward. Each Ward has its own dedicated dining and lounge areas. Additional step-down ward accommodation is provided in the annex.

We work closely with patient’s families, together supporting the young people in overcoming their difficulties. We also work closely with families, healthcare professionals and commissioners. Ellern Mede provides specialist inpatient mental health care for children (aged 8+), adolescents and adults with complex presentations, including eating disorders, trauma-related difficulties, emotional dysregulation, neurodivergence and overlapping mental health needs.
We accept referrals from NHS commissioners and international health authorities, and welcome private enquiries via self-funding or medical insurance.
All referrals are subject to clinical review to assess suitability, level of risk and therapeutic fit.
