Ellern Mede Eating Disorder Hospitals’ Derby treatment centre now has several NHS-referred patients in its first few months of officially opening with a Care Quality Commission seal of approval.
The Tier 4 specialist service is working closely with local commissioning teams and NHS England.
A spokesperson for the hospital said: “We are delighted that our internationally recognised expertise in treating children and young people is now available to patients in the East Midlands. We have a very high ratio of staff to patients. Many of our leading clinicians have been with Ellern Mede since its initial opening and bring more than 20 years of experience to help our patients.”
The high quality of the newly refurbished hospital building and grounds in Draycott Road, Breaston, Derbyshire has been praised by local councillors who visited prior to its opening. The service, when full, will provide for up to 17 young people as inpatients. There are two wards – one for children aged 8 to 17 and one for young adults aged 18 to 25.
The service already has school rooms ready to provide education for young people while they are inpatients in hospital, awaiting registration and inspection. The school will be managed by the same team as in other Ellern Mede Schools in London, which have been awarded OFSTED-outstanding ratings in their last three inspections. Ellern Mede Schools have a strong track record for pupil academic achievement.
