School expansion by popular demand

Ellern Mede Schools are expanding. Headmaster, Adel Shirbini said “Greater London Local Authorities have regularly requested that we expand the number of places we offer to young people with Educational Health Care Plans (EHCPs) and who are self-excluded from their mainstream schools owing to family, social or emotional difficulties.”

“We have a successful track record over the last 20 years of providing excellent education to young people who struggle with personal and family issues. We have always helped to reintegrate them back into mainstream education where possible. Using this experience, we have a mission to expand local provision in North London, serving Greater London. We are currently working on adding another new school site to our existing three schools, with up to 50 more school places.”

“Thanks to its close cooperation with Ellern Mede Group, Ellern Mede Schools have the abilities and resources to provide comprehensive support packages to young people and their families, including therapy, parental support, and other therapeutic services. This enables us to ensure the young people are able to focus on their education while the families get close support. It also allows us to enable integration to mainstream education when possible.”

The new school will be designated for children and young people aged 11 to 18 who have special education needs (SEN) and are self-excluded from school, linked to mental health issues such as the following:

  • Anxiety
  • School phobias
  • Social, Emotional & Mental Health Issues (SEMH)
  • High functioning Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

The expansion is to be warmly welcomed. There is a great need for children and young people’s mental health support. We will meet the needs of young people, who have been particularly adversely impacted by the COVID pandemic with its pressures on both physical and mental health services. Many young people will find it difficult to reintegrate to school after months of home schooling and this is one of Ellern Mede Schools’ specialities.

Ellern Mede Schools successfully continued to provide full education services throughout the pandemic. Online education from EMS Ltd was well received by pupils. It was also marked by continued good performance and achievement levels by pupils in their online exams.

We continue to offer a mix of face to face and online learning as required by each individual pupil. The service is highly individualised with subject teachers brought in to suit each child’s curriculum.
